Weezer covered Africa, which was irritating because that song is perfect and doesn't ever need to be re-done. (According to Wade, who is a Weezer fan, it was by popular request of fans, blah blah blah. Anyway.) SO THEN, Toto covered Hash Pipe by Weezer. As they said, they've been smoking hash since before the members of Weezer were born, so it's fitting. And it was fantastic, because Toto is fantastic.
And now, fans are requesting that Toto and Weezer tour together. Which Wade and I would go to -- Wade to see Weezer, and me to see Toto. Because I'm basically a 65-year-old woman. And this all made me wonder, in a Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City way -- who else would I like to see cover each other and tour together?
First off is Michael McDonald and Imagine Dragons. I'd like to hear Imagine Dragons' take on I Keep Forgetting, and I would listen to Michael McDonald sing any of Imagine Dragons' songs because a) I celebrate the Dragons' entire catalogue and b) I would listen to Michael McDonald sing the Totino's Pizza Rolls jingle over again and not complain...and I hate hearing a jingle multiple times in the same episode of television. P.S. If you, like me, are wondering why they play the same songs over and over again during streaming - it's because they don't care about your misophonia, they need to fit in those ad plays.
I'd like to see Fleetwood Mac do a cover exchange program (that's what I'm calling it now) with In The Valley Below. In the Valley Below covering The Chain (because it's my favorite Fleetwood Mac song! And ITVB have a chain in another song, so, y'know, synergy). Fleetwood Mac covering Neverminders, because it's a great fecking song and they'd rock it.
Hall & Oates and Blink 182 is an out-of-the-box pick, but the more you think about it, the more you're going to think it makes sense. Blink 182 covering Kiss on My List and Hall & Oates covering Los Angeles. Credit to Wade for that one.
New favorite band Roscoe & Etta (tour coming soon! be a hipster and like them first!) would do a gorgeous exchange with the Indigo Girls. Roscoe & Etta could sing Least Complicated, and after I wiped away my tears of joy and peeled myself off the floor, Indigo Girls could cover Broken Headlight.
I'd like to hear Bruno Mars cover Michael Jackson's Scream. I'd like to hear Michael Jackson cover Bruno Mars' Chunky, because Michael Jackson is not really dead, but that's another blog post for another day. What musicians would you love to hear in an exchange program? Who should the Foo Fighters trade with? Share in the comments!
And while you're pondering, please enjoy the only necessary re-envisioning of Toto's Africa.
And Weezer's cover of Africa, because fine.
And the original video for Africa by Toto, because it's major and you deserve it.
